I havent been around for a while…

I miss Bish so much! I have to say these last few months since LL closed us down, I have been very much in mourning, and driven by a horrible guilt loaded with shame for dropping so many wonderful friends by losing the resort like that.  I have finally made my peace with the loss though, but I still miss just dropping out of RL into paradise and living the dream that was Bishara, Majini, Bahati, Mandhari, Pepo and Wimbi Islands.

That said it was always the people who made Bish what it was, not even the waves, the environment or the sounds.  So I was overjoyed when I heard from a friend of mine that there has been some new sims with a similar feeling, full of echoes of the past, but soaked in a much brighter future!  So seeing how it has affected him so positively to be again in a sim where the old friends have all found a new home, I have decided to write a final post here to help you all find this new paradise. If you see any of the old team there, send them my fondest regards.  I still dream of my return, and as soon as my RL avatar’s ship finally comes in, I will be back and then I too will hope to call this new place my home!

New surfboard designers – check out this fantastic Reaction competition!

http://surfwatch.blogspot.com/2008/09/board-design-contest-trawls-for-new.html

What a fantastic chance for someone to launch themselves in Second Life’s surf community and make some serious bucks too 🙂  Come on, Bisharians, let’s encourage everyone we know in our group and resort that designs well to try out for this competition that Reaction is offering.  it’s a fantastic idea and we should encourage it big time!

Ripped off surfing products!

Hiya Bisharians!

Hey, take a moment and read ‘http://dumisworld.wordpress.com/2008/09/12/heather-goodliffe-responds-to-scripters-designers-creators-what-right/

Excellent comment from Heather Goodliffe about the work she and Seb have done for surfing in SL, and her fears about copied work and dishonest operators, in response to my own piece on the matter.  Let’s get behind the efforts to clean up the surfing product offerings in SL by purchasing only from designers who honour their agreements with creators like HG and Seb, and let’s encourage innovative new designers who clearly have not ripped off someone else’s designs.  I always find voting with your wallet works wonders 🙂

New Mono fix rolling out this week!

Hiya Bisharians.  Hey, the Lindens are rolling out a new fix for a serious Mono glitch that caused scripts to crash completely (unrecoverable) suddenly and randomly.  A problem with C# too complex to explain here, but at least the more experienced coders / scripters in Second Life will be testing the fix to make sure it’s all sorted out for us.

This post is simply to warn everyone that the patch will be rolled out through the next few days so if anything strange happens just let VW Sands know and he should be able to sort out surfboards and waves that act weird in any way 🙂

Losing surfboards again?

Thanks to some reports of people losing surfboards again, we are posting this warning here. Please please please make a habit of checking ‘status.secondlifegrid.net’ before you log in to see what the asset servers are doing. Also please make sure you do not rezz no-copy items during times when the blog shows asset server problems. This problem will ALWAYS cause problems for NO-COPY products, prims or objects.
Solution: Well, LL sorts out the ever failing asset server cluster, and we all become rich enough to afford COPY versions of our boards, OR the surfing designer community comes to the party and gives us copy versions at lower prices whilst these asset server losses continue 😉 Won’t that be nice?

Anyway, be warned then – do NOT use NO-COPY boards or items during asset server problems. You may lose them!

Aloha Bishara!

Just a quick update to get me warmed up and see if I can learn to post here 🙂

As you all know, Dumi and I have been working very hard as of late in an effort to give Bishara and the surrounding sims a much needed face-lift and the results speak for themselves! Queen is putting the finishing touches on the new art gallery, the new Surf Center is packed with great new boards, the new Bishara Dive Shop is stocked with some really great dive gear and the sim(s) is/are looking really great.

As I try to confine my madness to the surf program (although it has leaked out some) I would like to give you all a quick update on the post-Havoc situation. The day after the H4 server code was implemented, I shut down the Epic as it was (and still is) nearly unridable. Pipe waves seem to behave somewhat better and though far from trouble free, a triple set with fluffs is running on Majini. The isues with the big wave have been recognized and are being looked at by Sidewinder in close communication with Heather Goodliffe. It´s a wait and see if some fix is implemented with the 1.21 server code later next week.

In the meantime, all of the surfboard vendors have been updated to issue a “Havoc compatible” surfboards upon purchase so rest easy knowing that at least the boards have been updated to float properly, although the new camera scripts may take some getting used to.

Dumi was gracious enough to order 10 new Majini boards and the vendors are rezzed on the main beach! Some killer new desings, 5 “modern” boards and 5 Woodies all 100% Pure Juice! Textured by Schrotti, the new Majini boards are awesome.

Majini hosted the first post-havoc contest last saturday, the VSA Surf-Jam 3 and considering the somewhat quirky conditions caused in the H4 environment it was once again a blast!

We have a major Windsurfing comp coming up in less than 2 weeks which will be run on the Epic, for better or worse, lets hope that LL gets a fix implemented. Safe to say that when and if LL get the issues with the Epic sorted we will be back in full swing.

So, all in all – yes we have seen some problems with H4 but the collective, chilled-out attitude of our surfing community has allowed us to still have way to much fun. I really believe that once these initial issues are sorted, surfing in sl and in the Bishara estate in particular, will be better than ever. Hang in there, we are all working really hard to bring you the best surfing in sl 🙂

Sub you say?

A reference to sunken surfboards 🙂 but more importanly new underwater features! The diving areas are being worked on constantly in an effort to bring you not only awesome surfing but a diving environment to be remembered. Stay tuned for some awesome new features that will allow you to have as much fun under the surface as above it.

Mahalo,
